About Emily Conway - Intellectual Disability New Zealand

I was born in the UK, but moved to Auckland, New Zealand in January 2009, aged 30. I studied psychology A Level and have a certificate in counselling, both of which which were achieved whilst working as a Senior Support Worker for a charitable service in Barnet, UK providing residential respite to disabled children with learning, physical and sensory disabilities. During this time, I additionally worked for the National Health Service (NHS) in a Brain Injury Rehabilitation Unit and for the Royal National Institute for the Blind (RNIB) in a Residential School.

I qualified as a Social Worker in 2002, having completed the Diploma in Social Work at Hertfordshire University, UK and sought work for Hertfordshire County Council's Disabled Children's Team, working with disabled children in care, disabled children in need of protection and holistic family support. I completed a Postgraduate Qualification in Social Work (PQSW) and a Post Qualification in Child Care Award (PQCCA) in 2006 and an MSc by Research in 2008 at Hertfordshire University, UK whilst working as a Senior Social Worker for Shared Care, a short breaks (respite) fostering service providing day care and overnight stays for children with disabilities.

In January 2009, my husband and I moved to Auckland, New Zealand and I started working as a Coordinator for a non-government organisation in Epsom, providing residential services for 12 adults with intellectual disabilities.
